Is all the furniture really hand-made?

Yes. Tom Elman hand crafts every piece of furniture himself.

Is the furniture really all solid wood?

Yes. I don't use plywood...except as a backer on tile frames.

What kind of finishes do you use?

Shellac is a favorite. It's a natural, non-toxic finish traditionally used on furniture. We also use lacquer on surfaces that will see heavier use.

Why do you donate to the Nature Conservancy?

We use wood, a renewable - but still precious - natural resource. I value protecting our environment and increasing protections for the environment. If I choose to use a natural resource, I feel a responsibility to give back.
